Roseanne Barr called former co-star Michael Fishman a “brainwashed bigot” on Can't Be Censored after he said the show was “rightfully canceled” in 2018 following Barr’s racist post about Valerie Jarrett. Barr accused Fishman of misunderstanding her remarks.
In an August 2026 Instagram video, Fishman said comedians can use humor to address dark subjects but that Barr’s case had “no joke.” Barr said Fishman had ignored her repeated explanations, accused him of lacking geopolitical context and said she felt like suing him for slander.
Barr said the tweet was online for about two hours in the middle of the night before she deleted it because she was frightened by what she had written. She called it “prescient,” argued that current events vindicated what she had meant, and said she tried to keep the show’s final season politically balanced.
