Metallica’s 1991 self-titled album has spent 850 weeks on the Billboard 200, becoming only the fourth release to reach that mark. It rose from No. 165 to No. 153 on this week’s U.S. chart, which ranks albums and EPs using sales and streaming.
The other albums to reach 850 weeks are Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Legend, and Journey’s Greatest Hits, which has 927 weeks on the chart. The Dark Side of the Moon is about a month from 1,000 weeks, while Legend is less than a year away. Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Chronicle: The 20 Greatest Hits, which crossed 800 weeks earlier this year, is identified as the next likely album to reach 850.
Metallica also reentered the Top Album Sales chart at No. 48 after selling 2,250 U.S. copies across digital downloads, CDs and vinyl in the latest tracking period, according to Luminate. It rose to No. 9 on Top Hard Rock Albums and from No. 44 to No. 41 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums.
