Madonna says she cried while writing “The Test,” her collaboration with daughter Lourdes Leon on “Confessions II.” Leon said she proposed the song to express unspoken love and tension in their mother-daughter relationship through art.
The song also addresses how living in the spotlight affected their relationship. Madonna had previously said Leon was reluctant to work with her because she did not want to be perceived as taking advantage of her mother’s position in the industry; Madonna said she was happy when Leon approached her.
