Luis Antonio Rosendo-Frontado, a Katy Rebels youth baseball coach, has been in ICE custody since Aug. 23. A parent says lawyers are preparing a habeas corpus petition to challenge his detention and seek release while immigration proceedings continue.
ICE says Rosendo-Frontado entered the U.S. unlawfully on Nov. 16, 2021, and was released under the Biden administration. His family, according to KHOU, says he has no criminal record; he is originally from Venezuela and is seeking asylum. Public records place him at a detention facility in Livingston, about 75 miles from Katy.
ICE says Rosendo-Frontado can leave detention if he leaves the country; a spokesperson said people in the U.S. illegally are being offered $3,000 and a free flight to self-deport. Francisco Flores, a parent of a Rebels player who organized a GoFundMe for legal fees and updates, said the case could take months. The team has voiced support for Rosendo-Frontado.
