Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is 8-5 against Texas across his playing and assistant-coaching career at Oklahoma. Saturday’s matchup will be his first against the Longhorns since 2014 and his first as a head coach.
Heupel went 1-1 against Texas as Oklahoma’s quarterback, losing 38-28 in 1999 and winning 63-14 in 2000. He was 7-4 against the Longhorns as an Oklahoma assistant. Although he was Missouri’s offensive coordinator in 2017, he did not coach the Tigers against Texas in the Texas Bowl; he had been hired as UCF’s head coach in early December.
