Jersey’s Meals on Wheels says rising fuel costs are making it harder to recruit volunteer drivers, who must use their own cars at their own expense. The service delivers hot meals to about 100 people four days a week and has more than 200 volunteers.
The service said it had received a £38,000 Jersey Community Foundation grant for 2026 and 2027. The grant covers the charge to the Government of Jersey’s Health and Community Services, which supplies and facilitates meal preparation; recipients currently pay £5, the cost price.
The organisation has no paid staff and hopes to renegotiate its service-level agreement with the government so it can continue.
