Sark’s Douzaine has asked Chief Pleas to approve a temporary public transport service for the motorbike trials on 10–11 October, using tractors and trailers to move riders and bikes between stages. Chief Pleas is due to consider the request next week.
Sark bans cars and allows only quad bikes, tractors, mobility scooters and electric bikes as motor vehicles. Current road rules allow one passenger per tractor; the Douzaine said the only plausible exemption would allow multiple riders and their bikes to be carried by tractor and trailer. The Douzaine also said it was considering further legal changes to simplify the system. It said special events, particularly in the shoulder months, bring visitors and should be facilitated. Sark’s only public transport for hire is a tractor carrying visitors up and down Harbour Hill.
