Anna Binet has been named the first ambassador for Jersey Eating Disorders Support. She says talking openly can help break stigma and hopes the role will encourage people with eating disorders to seek support.
Binet, 30, said her binge eating disorder began when she started trying to lose weight in 2020; what initially felt like a healthy change gradually became a difficult relationship with food. Encouraged by a friend, she contacted the charity and initially found its support meetings daunting. The charity supported her through recovery, including after her mother died of cancer in August 2025 and her father of sepsis in December 2025.
Binet said eating disorders can look different from person to person and challenged the misconception that they affect only a certain type of person. She also said people may not know what help is available unless they seek out that information.
