Saudi Arabia’s military coalition said Saturday that air defences intercepted and destroyed two Houthi-launched drones heading for Riyadh, and intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at Khamis Mushait. It gave no information on damage or casualties.
Security alerts were briefly issued in several Saudi areas, including Abha and Khamis Mushait. On Thursday, the Saudi military said it intercepted six Houthi ballistic missiles; about 10 days earlier, the coalition reported a Houthi drone attack targeting Mecca, which a Houthi representative denied.
The Houthis have stepped up attacks on neighbouring Saudi Arabia amid a renewed escalation of the war in Yemen. Saudi Arabia supports Yemen’s internationally recognized government and has repeatedly carried out airstrikes against the Houthis as part of the coalition.
