An anonymous woman who accused Jay-Z of rape told a court her allegations were false, saying she had never met or spoken to him. She says Tony Buzbee’s team filed suit without authorization or investigating her claims; her 2024 case was dismissed with prejudice on Feb. 14, 2025.
The 2024 lawsuit alleged that Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs drugged and sexually assaulted the woman at a party after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. She also said the allegations that they assaulted her while a third, redacted celebrity watched were false. Carter sued the woman and her lawyers for defamation; she is no longer listed as a defendant, but he continues to sue Buzbee.
She said Carter and his representatives did not pay her for the statement. Buzbee said he and his team were reviewing how the affidavit was obtained, but maintained she had given the same account to five lawyers and signed four consistent affidavits. He had alleged Carter’s investigators harassed and intimidated her to change her testimony. In California, his lawyers disputed the admissibility and significance of a recording of her encounter with investigators at her Alabama home; the court said the conversation was “not as clear as either party would like” and noted her intimidation claim.
