Jay-Z’s accuser said in a Sept. 24 court declaration that her claim he raped her in 2000 was false and she had never met him. Her lawyer says she maintains she was sexually assaulted but mistakenly identified Jay-Z; her 2024 civil suit was voluntarily dismissed in February 2025.
Jay-Z filed a countersuit in March 2025 against the woman, her former attorney Tony Buzbee and another lawyer. His attorneys this week asked a judge to drop her from that case; it remains pending against the other defendants.
When her suit was dismissed, Jay-Z called it a victory and said the allegations had caused trauma for his wife, Beyoncé, and their three children. Buzbee said she had given the same detailed account to four lawyers and his firm hired a former major-crimes detective to vet it. She acknowledged inconsistencies in a December 2024 interview. A representative for Benji Madden said he and his brother Joel did not attend the 2000 VMAs and were touring in the Midwest at the time; Jane Doe had said she spoke with Benji at the party.
