Jayde Wooten, 4, died after she was found upside down in a trash can filled with water and fish at a home in Macon, Georgia, on Sept. 19. The sheriff’s office says the investigation is ongoing; the coroner’s office says autopsy results are pending.
According to an incident report reviewed by Fox affiliate WGXA, Wooten’s father had just arrived home and realized she was not in her room. He searched inside and outside, then heard her mother scream and found the child in the bathroom. He carried her outside for help; a neighbor told a deputy that she and another resident took turns performing CPR.
Bibb County deputies were dispatched shortly before 2 p.m. local time on Sept. 19, after a medical emergency was reported. They rendered aid until the fire department and paramedics arrived; Wooten was then taken to a local medical facility and pronounced dead.
