Colleen Hoover says she would support a film sequel to It Ends with Us if its rights holders decide to make one, but she does not own the sequel’s film rights. Her 2022 novel It Starts with Us could provide the basis for a follow-up.
It Starts with Us follows high school sweethearts Lily Bloom and Atlas Corrigan after their romance in the first novel. Hoover said she sold the film rights to It Ends with Us to Justin Baldoni, who directed the 2024 adaptation starring Blake Lively and Baldoni.
Hoover also said she felt for everyone involved in the legal dispute and remained proud of the film. Lively filed a sexual-harassment complaint alleging misconduct and a retaliatory smear campaign; Baldoni denied the claims and filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds and others, which was later dismissed. Attorneys for both sides announced a settlement on May 4.
