The Memphis Grizzlies waived guard D’Angelo Russell on Friday while trimming their roster, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported. The move could let Russell join another team before the season; NBA reporter Brett Siegel said he wants to play for a playoff contender.
Russell spent the 2025–26 season with the Dallas Mavericks, appearing in 26 games, including three starts, and averaging 10.2 points, 4.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 19 minutes per game, according to ClutchPoints’ Julian Ojeda. He shot 40.5% from the field and 29.5% from three, a career low, Ojeda reported.
Heat reporter Ira Winderman floated Miami as a possible fit, citing the team’s roster and salary-cap flexibility. The article said the Heat had 14 players, leaving one roster spot open, and could add a veteran later through the buyout market.
