Genevieve Verlander’s perfect first pitch opens Justin’s farewell weekend

Eight-year-old Genevieve Verlander threw a ceremonial first pitch praised as perfect before Friday’s Tigers-Pirates game, opening her father Justin’s farewell weekend. Justin spoke to family, friends and former teammates before the pitch.

Verlander said he and Genevieve practiced on the field one day. When he asked where she wanted to pitch, she chose the mound.
