Army beat Temple 21-17 in Philadelphia Friday on Cale Hellums’ 3-yard touchdown run with 1:41 left. Hellums scored all three Army touchdowns. Temple’s final possession reached the Army 24, but Jaydan Mayes broke up Sheppard’s pass to seal the win.
Hellums finished with a game-high 104 rushing yards, while Samari Howard added 69 and Carson Smith 63. Army held the ball for more than 38 minutes, including 10:01 in the fourth quarter.
Temple quarterback Ajani Sheppard made his first start of the season, throwing for 242 yards on 11 completions and touchdown passes of 78 yards to Sam Brown V and 67 to Colin Chase. Army has won five straight against Temple since 2016. Army is 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the American; Temple is 1-3 and 0-1, on a three-game losing streak.
