Fredericton, New Brunswick, won North America’s best-tasting tap-water title, finishing ahead of 32 other regional winners in an American Water Works Association competition. The contest measured taste, aroma and consistency.
Part of the water’s taste comes from minerals in groundwater drawn from an aquifer beneath downtown Fredericton, which supplies the city through 11 wells. About 5.3 million gallons (20 million liters) flow through the network daily; the city samples roughly 50 sites each week to keep the water within Canadian drinking water guidelines.
