Former Odessa, Texas, officer Jody Baer faces two felony counts of misusing official information; investigators say he used phone numbers obtained during arrests to send personal, sexually inappropriate texts to two women. He resigned the morning of his arrest.
An affidavit says Baer first contacted one woman on Aug. 5, and his messages soon became sexual. He allegedly began contacting the second on Aug. 22, calling her “beautiful” and “sexy”; investigators also say he drove his marked patrol car past her home several times and texted to ask if she was there.
Both women told investigators they had given Baer their nonpublic numbers because he was a police officer. Baer acknowledged getting the numbers during their arrests and contacting them afterward, saying he was lonely. Investigators say he admitted some messages were inappropriate, including a sexual message and photograph sent to one woman.
