Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery temporarily suspended operations after a drone attack damaged it, Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar said Friday. Russian air defenses also destroyed about 50 drones over the Rostov region overnight.
The refinery sells fuel mainly for export and has an annual capacity of 5 million metric tons of oil, or about 100,000 barrels per day.
The attack follows discussions at the United Nations about a possible energy-related ceasefire between Kyiv and Moscow. Zelenskiy said he discussed efforts to end the war, including a bilateral truce on energy targets, with Trump on Tuesday. At the UN, he warned Ukraine would strike back and make the coming winter “deeply painful” for Russia if the sides do not agree on a truce covering energy assets before cold weather sets in. Ukraine recently struck two major Russian refineries in Moscow and Yaroslavl.
