The Detroit Free Press endorsed Democrat Abdul El-Sayed over Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, urging voters to elect El-Sayed on Nov. 3. The paper’s editorial called Rogers an “extremist” and said his agenda was out of step with Michigan’s mainstream.
With Democrats seeking to flip control of the Senate, losing the seat being vacated by Democratic Sen. Gary Peters would make their path more difficult. The Free Press also backed Democratic candidates in Michigan’s two previous U.S. Senate elections.
