Arizona beat San Diego Friday for its sixth straight win, keeping playoff hopes alive with two regular-season games left. Brandon Pfaadt allowed four runs over 7⅔ innings, and the Diamondbacks hold the tiebreaker over Philadelphia in the NL wild-card race.
Corbin Burnes was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation after an MRI in Phoenix on Friday. General manager Mike Hazen said Burnes was not in pain but did not feel he could help because the ball was not coming out right; Burnes will get a second opinion. Arizona is likely to use Ryne Nelson as an opener for a bullpen game against San Diego on Saturday.
Gabriel Moreno left Friday’s game with leg tightness. Manager Torey Lovullo said he expected Moreno to be fine and penciled him in as designated hitter to rest the leg; Arizona planned to call up another catcher so two would be available for the final two regular-season games. The team also designated Jesus Sanchez for assignment.
