Unbeaten boxer Javon Walton faces former UFC champion Henry Cejudo in a Misfits Boxing main event in Miami on Sept. 26. Walton says Cejudo’s wrestling and MMA credentials won’t translate under boxing rules and predicts he’ll want back in the Octagon.
Walton enters with a 3-0-1 professional record; Cejudo is taking his first professional boxing bout. Walton replaced influencer Nurideen “Deen the Great” Shabazz after Shabazz withdrew with an injury. The change was announced Sept. 15, leaving Walton less than two weeks to prepare. Walton said he felt mentally ready and was happy with the work his team fit into the shortened camp.
The fight is at the James L. Knight Center in Miami and streams on DAZN; the broadcast is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET. At Friday’s weigh-in, Cejudo registered 147 pounds and Walton 146.5 pounds.
