DeepMind chief says Gemini 4 enters early post-training as launch nears

Insider Monkey

Google DeepMind chief Koray Kavukcuoglu said Sept. 23 that Gemini 4 has entered early post-training, a phase to refine performance and reliability, as Google nears launch. The model is expected to offer more advanced AI capabilities.

Alphabet’s Search and Other revenue rose 17% year over year in the second quarter as users adopted Search’s AI Overviews and AI Mode. The company says Gemini has more than 950 million monthly users; the article says a stronger model could also support Google Cloud, subscriptions, enterprise services and developer APIs.

The article says Gemini 4’s investment case depends on whether improved capabilities generate returns: the model could require substantial computing resources, while cheaper rivals could pressure API and enterprise pricing. Hedge-fund ownership of Alphabet rose to 275 in the second quarter from 265 in the first; short interest was 1.49% of shares as of Sept. 15.
