Darby Allin and Steven Borden said their partnership grew from training before Borden’s Sept. 9 AEW debut. They are set to face Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight at AEW All Out on Saturday, Sept. 26, at NOW Arena near Chicago.
Borden, Sting’s son, said he would not have had the Forbes interview without his surname. After choosing wrestling, he called Allin first and flew to Atlanta to train with him; Allin also gave him feedback before and after shows where Borden worked dark matches. Borden had pursued the NFL, playing Division I football in the SEC and being cut by NFL teams. Allin said he urged Borden to choose between wrestling and his company CEO role, which Borden left at 34 despite having a wife and child.
Allin, the AEW TNT champion, said he and Borden would not underestimate Fletcher and Knight, while warning that the opponents could overlook Borden, whom he said was set for his third AEW match. All Out airs at 8 p.m. ET on HBO Max, Prime Video, Sling and DAZN; the card is headlined by champion Will Ospreay’s AEW World Championship bout against Jon Moxley.
