College Station voted 4-2 Thursday to renew two Flock Safety agreements for another year, keeping its automated license-plate readers in operation. The agreements total up to $299,061.80, and more than 20 people addressed the council before the vote.
Up to $158,000 is for cameras on TxDOT roads and up to $141,061.80 for cameras on other roads. Council members Bob Yancy and Mark Smith voted against renewal.
Carrollton renewed an 82-camera, three-year contract for up to $1.19 million. Kyle voted 6-1 to continue despite not receiving its $205,000 2026 grant, which included $80,000 for 32 cameras. Laredo will ask voters in a nonbinding referendum about spending about $1 million a year to keep 165 cameras. Abbott ordered state agencies to pause Flock spending in August, and TxDOT halted permits for new state-road installations but not existing cameras. Dallas will shut 321 readers and keep about 300 city-funded cameras. A Chronicle tracker lists two dozen Texas cities and counties taking steps to remove readers or end contracts.
