Jeff and Mallory Wilson were seriously injured when a bear attacked them outside their Trinity County home on Sept. 19. A fundraiser says their French bulldog, Cassie, died two days later after stepping between Jeff and the bear; wildlife officials are investigating.
The fundraiser says Mallory suffered serious head and face injuries, along with other bite and puncture wounds. Jeff had two broken ribs and was bitten and clawed repeatedly. Family friend Rachel Moscon organized the fundraiser to help cover medical and emergency veterinary bills and property damage.
The Wilsons run Radio Ranch Camp, an off-grid glamping retreat, and canceled upcoming guest reservations while recovering and cooperating with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife investigation. As of Sept. 25, the fundraiser had raised $14,400 toward its $16,000 goal. The department confirmed the attack but declined to provide further details.
