Kevin Rodriguez and Samuel Reveron were arrested Friday in NYC and booked on trespassing and conspiracy counts. Police reportedly suspect they searched sewers for valuables. Both were released without bond: Reveron on supervised release and Rodriguez on recognizance.
The arrests followed Thursday reports that three people emerged from a manhole near Park Avenue and East 61st Street on Manhattan's Upper East Side at about 4:35 a.m. Wednesday, then fled north on Park Avenue. WABC reported that police camera footage captured the scene; the report did not say whether the two arrested were among the three.
A police spokesperson said the case met the same criteria as other recent incidents involving people entering sewers to look for valuables and scrap metal after a storm. Police said they were conducting additional security sweeps with a federal partner as a precaution during the UN general assembly, citing the location's sensitivity.
