Celia Rose Gooding says the “Strange New Worlds” Season 4 finale’s conversation between TOS-era Uhura and Pike was its most meaningful scene to her, because Uhura knows his fate. A time anomaly brings two Uhuras together, and the present-day version becomes open to Scotty.
In “Tomorrow’s Enterprise,” the Uhuras first speak across time while trying to save Scotty, then switch places; to return to their own timelines, they help deliver a “baby.” Gooding said filming the dual-role exchanges was challenging, with her stand-in reading the other Uhura’s lines.
Gooding said she wanted Uhura and Scotty’s relationship to develop toward the romance established in “Star Trek V,” and saw earlier exchanges as groundwork. She also teased that viewers who liked episode 410 would enjoy every episode of the upcoming fifth and final season.
