Caleb Williams will miss Chicago’s Monday, Sept. 28 game against Philadelphia, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported, with Case Keenum set to start. Tyson Bagent is in concussion protocol, and an MRI on Williams’ hamstring found no tear.
Williams left Chicago’s 9-3 loss to Minnesota in the fourth quarter after a non-contact scramble near the goal line and was carted off, later walking under his own power. Coach Ben Johnson called the MRI results somewhat encouraging but said Williams would likely miss time; Williams remained involved in walk-throughs and meetings.
Keenum, 38, took every first-team rep Wednesday, and the start will be his first in the regular season since 2023. ABC7 Chicago reported Bagent entered concussion protocol Tuesday after a hit by Minnesota linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel and that the Bears do not plan to add a fourth quarterback. Friday’s practice was expected to offer the clearest indication of whether Williams would miss time beyond Week 3.
