Penguins send 12 to Wilkes-Barre as Gauthier’s AHL move is formalized

Penguins assigned 12 players to AHL Wilkes-Barre Thursday, formalizing goalie Taylor Gauthier’s move after he cleared waivers. Pittsburgh still has more than a dozen players to cut from NHL camp before Wednesday’s opener, when it will have 23 healthy players.

Wilkes-Barre needed more players for its Friday preseason game. Pittsburgh lost 4-0 to Columbus on Thursday and has one preseason game remaining, Saturday in Buffalo; the regular season begins Wednesday in Philadelphia.
