St. Louis rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie Milwaukee 4-4 on Jordan Walker’s and Alec Burleson’s seventh-inning homers, but the Brewers scored four runs in the eighth and won 8-4 in Friday’s opener of the teams’ final regular-season series.
Milwaukee scored twice in the fifth to go up 4-1, with starter Michael McGreevy leaving after the Brewers loaded the bases and Brycen Mautz walking in a run. In the eighth, Justin Bruihl hit a batter and misplayed a sacrifice bunt before Brice Turang’s two-run single; a throwing error by Cade Winquest, William Contreras’ RBI single and Jake Bauers’ sacrifice fly added two more runs.
The teams were scheduled to meet again Saturday at American Family Field, with Quinn Mathews set to start for St. Louis against Dustin May for Milwaukee. First pitch was scheduled for 6:10 p.m. Central, with the broadcast on Cardinals.tv.
