The Tigers beat the Pirates 8-7 at Comerica Park on Friday night after Pittsburgh scored five runs in the eighth to cut an 8-2 deficit to one. Rafael Flores Jr. hit a three-run homer in the rally, but the Pirates could not complete the comeback.
The Pirates took a 2-0 lead in the second, but Spencer Torkelson’s two-run triple tied the game. The Tigers scored four runs in the third, all with two outs, then added a run in the sixth on a grounder that went between shortstop Konnor Griffin’s legs and Torkelson’s solo homer in the seventh.
