Anthony Volpe made his first major-league appearance at third base in the Yankees’ 6-3 win over Baltimore on Friday. Manager Aaron Boone said Volpe saw little action there but saw value in his positioning and movement as New York considers defensive options.
Boone said Volpe had worked at third and played there some in Triple-A. Volpe said a fielder has to anticipate and know what to do regardless of position.
New York scored all six runs in innings five through seven, winning Game 2 after a 10-2 loss in the series opener earlier Friday. The Yankees were 93-68 and scheduled to close the regular season against Baltimore on Sept. 27 at 3:20 p.m. ET.
