Amazon said Sept. 21 it will invest $1.9 billion in its Delivery Service Partner program in 2027, much of it for driver pay. The company says average driver pay will be close to $24 an hour—16% higher than three years ago.
Amazon said it has invested $21.7 billion in the program over its eight-year history. The company also reported that serious vehicle crashes across its delivery network fell more than 23% last year, during a period when it spent heavily on safety.
Amazon expects more than 20,000 AI Smart Delivery Glasses to be in the field by the end of 2027. The glasses display navigation and delivery details; the article says Amazon has not specified when the glasses and mapping work will begin to offset costs.
