Yemen’s Saudi-backed forces say they seized Mount Qarafan and Mount Zalat in Taiz and thwarted a Houthi infiltration attempt at Kahboub, near Bab al-Mandab. At the UN, officials seek support for their anti-Houthi push; fighting has displaced about 132,000 people, the IOM says.
The military said five Houthi fighters were killed and 20 wounded in the Qarafan operation. The Houthis alleged Saudi air strikes in Taiz, al-Jawf and Marib; Riyadh has not confirmed them. Analyst Ibrahim Jalal described the government’s counterattacks as local and tactical, saying no broad campaign to retake the coast had begun.
Presidential Leadership Council member Abdullah al-Alimi is leading Yemen’s delegation and is due to address the General Assembly later this week. Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zouba called for disarming non-state armed groups. Qatar backed a comprehensive political resolution based on the 2013–14 national dialogue, while Ireland stressed humanitarian concerns and freedom of navigation in Bab al-Mandab.
