Pete Alonso put Baltimore ahead with a third-inning homer, Dylan Beavers hit a grand slam in the fourth, and Jeremiah Jackson added an inside-the-park home run. Alonso later hit a 471-foot homer. Expected bad weather the next day prompted the doubleheader, moving Sabathia’s ceremony to the afternoon.
The second game was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, with Baltimore’s Brandon Young facing Ryan Yarbrough for New York. Will Warren was expected to work in relief in anticipation of his playoff role.
