The Yankees rallied from a four-run deficit to beat the Rays 6-4, but Tampa Bay had already clinched the AL East and top playoff seed. The Rays have three regular-season games left and did not use any of their high-leverage relievers.
Across five scoreless innings, Ian Seymour allowed one hit, walked none and struck out three on 58 pitches, 41 of them strikes. Jake Woodford then surrendered three earned runs in 1⅓ innings. Paul Goldschmidt’s seventh-inning single tied the game, and Lombard Jr. hit a two-run homer off Matz in the eighth.
The Rays’ final regular-season series is against the Phillies. After the three games, Tampa Bay is set for a five-day break while awaiting its ALDS opponent.
