Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell announced on Instagram Thursday that his father, Jim, had died. O’Connell had missed practice the previous week and sat out Las Vegas’ Sunday win over the Chargers, with his absence then listed as for “personal reasons.”
O’Connell called his father “a gift to me and to so many others,” said his family was heartbroken, and thanked people for their kindness and prayers. He asked for continued prayers as they grieve and honor Jim.
Teammates Maxx Crosby, Brock Bowers, Jackson Powers-Johnson and AJ Cole III sent messages of support. Former Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson also offered condolences.
