Xi Jinping and Donald Trump agreed at their Washington meeting to pursue a China-US channel for incidents involving artificial intelligence, the White House said. The countries plan regular talks on AI risks and benefits, with the next round scheduled by November.
The White House also said the two sides agreed to use “super intelligence,” a term Trump coined, instead of the usual “artificial intelligence.” Trump said he proposed it because “artificial intelligence” made the technology sound “fake.” The channel’s structure and participating authorities have not been specified.
The US and China are regarded as leading AI powers in fierce competition for global technological leadership. Concerns about the dangers of increasingly powerful AI are growing in both countries.
