Walmart plans seven new Supercentres in Canada between 2026 and 2027, in Hamilton, Fort McMurray, Tsuut'ina Nation, Sherbrooke, Edmonton, Ottawa and Brampton. The openings are part of Walmart Canada's broader $6.5 billion investment in its stores and supply chain.
During the quarter, Walmart launched Walmart+ in Canada and expanded its U.S. marketplace platform capabilities into Canada and Mexico. In June, it opened a 750,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Milton, Ontario, which can store more than 43,000 products.
Walmart already operates more than 400 stores and distribution centres in Canada. The Competition Bureau lists it among major grocery operators alongside Loblaw, Sobeys, Metro and Costco, and has highlighted property controls that can make it harder for retailers to open stores. CFO John David Rainey said Walmart expects more than $2 billion in additional fuel-related costs this fiscal year.
