Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said the Blue Jays’ 14-year, $500 million contract was based on his past performance, not what he would do in the future. In a down 2026 season, he has nine home runs and a .695 OPS through more than 140 games.

Guerrero hit 23 home runs with an .848 OPS in 2025. In 2024, he had 30 home runs and a .940 OPS, then the second-highest OPS of his career. The report says his contract pays $35.7 million a season, includes a $325 million signing bonus and means he will not be a free agent until 2040.
