A mocking letter attributed to Mark Zuckerberg and shared on Facebook was satire, not a statement from him or Meta. It originated with Philippine parody site Adobo Chronicles, amid confusion over whether lawmakers planned to summon him over platform harms.
The confusion followed a September 16 Department of Information and Communications Technology statement backing concerns over Meta’s user-safety record. After local media reported the agency said Zuckerberg had been called to a hearing, DICT deleted the post and retracted the claim on September 21, saying no House resolution had directed or invited him or Meta to appear.
Adobo Chronicles, a Philippine site known for satire and parody, published the identical text on Facebook on September 18. The post joked that a summons was a “friend request with legal consequences”; AFP found no trace of the letter on Meta’s news page or Zuckerberg’s verified account.
