Nneka Ogwumike ended her WNBA career with 17 points and 15 rebounds, but the Los Angeles Sparks lost 76-75 to Golden State after the Valkyries erased a double-digit lead with a late 13-0 run. Her 19th double-double of the season set a Sparks single-season record.
After the game, the Sparks announced their new practice facility in El Segundo will be named for Ogwumike. She retires as the franchise's all-time leading scorer.
Los Angeles finished 16-28, missed the playoffs for a sixth consecutive season and had the WNBA's second-worst defense. Coach Lynne Roberts said injuries prevented the team from gaining momentum and said she wants to return next season. The Kelsey Plum trade and the Sparks' low finish give them two lottery picks.
