Designer Valeria Kokur stamps textures from doors, tiles and everyday objects into a notebook as travel keepsakes. The hobby began after she moved to Lisbon five years ago; she has since collected impressions in Portugal, Spain, Mexico and beyond.
Kokur uses a kneaded eraser to pick up a surface’s texture, then stamps it onto a page with black or gold ink. Her finds include Portugal’s azulejos and patterned pavement, as well as door handles, bins and mailboxes. She cleans the eraser by stamping it repeatedly on the notebook’s last page.
Kokur sometimes studies the impressions while developing logos or patterns, but says the notebook is mainly a hobby. Her husband recreated one door-handle impression in CAD, 3D-printed it as a thin layer and transferred it to a T-shirt with heat.
