Eduardo Valencia hit a two-run walk-off homer in the ninth to complete Detroit’s comeback for a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh on Justin Verlander’s final major-league start. Verlander allowed two runs on five hits and a walk, striking out six in 5⅓ innings.
Detroit entered the ninth trailing 3-1. Max Clark singled and Hao-Yu Lee doubled, then Kevin McGonigle’s groundout brought Clark home before Valencia’s homer drove in Lee for the win.
Verlander had been sidelined for nearly six months. He left after recording the first out of the sixth inning, and his daughter and teammates joined him on the mound for an emotional farewell.
