Utah beat Iowa State 31-17 in Ames on Saturday, holding off a fourth-quarter rally that brought the Cyclones within seven. Wayshawn Parker’s 13-yard touchdown catch restored a two-score lead; Iowa State fell to 2-2, while No. 15 Utah improved to 4-0.
Devon Dampier threw first-quarter touchdown passes to Parker for 54 yards and Braden Pegan for 24. A Dillon Curtis field goal and Parker’s half-yard run put Utah ahead 24-3 at halftime. Iowa State scored on an eight-yard Jaylen Raynor run and a 22-yard catch by Dominic Overby; Raynor was intercepted by Jackson Bennee on the possession after Parker’s late touchdown.
The result left Iowa State 0-1 in Big 12 play and Utah 1-0; it was the teams’ first meeting in Ames as conference opponents. Iowa State hosts West Virginia for homecoming on Oct. 3 at 11 a.m., while Utah has a bye next week.
