The US Justice Department has asked the EU's General Court to join Elon Musk's challenge seeking to annul the bloc's €120 million ($136.51 million) fine against X, imposed late last year under the Digital Services Act after a two-year investigation.
Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate said the European Commission had exceeded its authority by reaching American companies outside its jurisdiction. The Commission says its laws target no nationality and defend the bloc's digital and democratic standards; the Trump administration alleges EU tech rules single out American firms.
The fine was the first sanction under the Digital Services Act, which requires online platforms to do more to tackle illegal and harmful content.
