At Meta Connect, Industrial Light & Magic announced immersive VR editions of Star Wars: A New Hope and Avengers: Infinity War, coming exclusively to Meta VR Glasses this spring through the Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM app.
The VR presentations will surround viewers with 3D environments and add dynamic effects and spatial audio during selected key portions of each film, rather than throughout. Disney and ILM plan to release more VR-enhanced films after launch.
Meta VR Glasses are the first IMAX Enhanced-certified VR device, according to the announcement, and will let users watch select films at home in IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio. The glasses are due to go on sale in spring 2027 for $1,299.99.
