TxDOT is proposing a $209 million project to widen 6.7 miles of the Grand Parkway near Spring, in Harris and Montgomery counties, adding a third main lane each way and two flyover connectors at I-45. Toll revenue would fund the work.
The work would cover SH 99 from west of Springwoods Village Parkway to east of Townsen Boulevard/Imperial Promenade. The proposed 12-foot lanes would fit within the existing right-of-way, and the Grand Parkway would remain tolled.
TxDOT says the stretch cannot maintain stable traffic flow and speeds, and the project is intended to manage congestion from increased traffic. Its tentative schedule calls for an environmental decision and detailed design in early 2027, with construction expected to start in late 2027. An open house is scheduled Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at York Junior High School, 3515 Waterbend Cove in Spring; comments must be received or postmarked by Friday, Oct. 9. Drainage changes are being analyzed using updated NOAA Atlas 14 rainfall data; no new stormwater detention ponds outside the existing right-of-way are proposed.
