Police said 27 people were killed in two shootings in South Africa: 17 at a pub in Wedela, Gauteng, on Saturday evening and 10 at a barbecue restaurant near Cape Town on Sunday. A further 26 people were injured.
Police said eight armed men, carrying AK-47 rifles and pistols, attacked the Wedela pub, firing first outside and then inside. They searched some guests, took mobile phones and fled in two vehicles. At the pub, 13 men and four women were killed and 15 people wounded; 11 were injured in the Lwandle attack. Police said the motives remain unclear. No arrests have been made, and a manhunt is under way.
